If a lack of democracy prevents democratic means from being pursued then in the case of necessity other means will be found.

My spies tell me Brown had been planning a diplomatic tour to S. America at this time, but events meant he had to rearrange his diary. Jack Straw’s chums in the secret services were a bit miffed, but apparently once their black ops had set the chain of events in motion there was nothing they could do without exposing him…

And perfectly timed, too. As well as the plotting MPs, we the proles are all casting our votes for the irrelevant EU talking shop and the irrelevant local councils. Meanwhile, our Glorious Leader explains to us that he is too busy doing the job that no-one wants him to do to have time for us to express an opinion on whether he should be doing it.

As an adendum, I should add that while I am right now an erstwhile Conservative supporter, I am a libertarian and really am absurdly proud of our botched, mashed up system. It looks like a democracy but if that gives you no joy try the courts, then if that fails try the esoteric old boy network – the same one that had Crowley casting spells against the Luftwaffe in 1940 for MI6 – or the masons or the unions or many other similarly evocative back channels. Creativity is rewarded.

I’m proud of that.
