So I have accepted the £10 bet with Mark Reckons.
Mark wins if Brown resigns before the end of this month. I win if he does not.
If Brown goes then, sure, I have to cough up a tenner, but hey – I’d pay loads more to have Brown kicked out. If Brown doesn’t resign I get a free tenner. This is as Win Win as they come.

Some geezer called James Purnell just resigned. According to the court gossips, there is some rule that if a bloke called James Purnell, whoever he is, resigns, the emperor has to get off the throne and hand it to somebody else.
I am told that this system, where a national leader with absolute tyrannical powers over his tremulous subjects is chosen by an imaginary photoshop creation called James Parnell, is called “democracy”.
