the Argumentum Ad Maternitate (and i’d like to thank people on twitter for helping me with the latin on that one). Not sure they helped you much. In Latin ad is usually followed by the accusative case of the noun. e.g. argumentum ad hominem, argumentum ad populum, argumentum ad verecundiam. So if maternitas is the right word (maternity?), then it's most likely argumentum ad maternitatem. But it doesn't seem that maternitas is a real Latin word. I couldn't find it, leastways. Mater is the Latin for mother. So maybe it should be argumentum ad matrem. It's clearly a fallacious argument, anyway.

Charlotte, I have a student here in Lancs who wants to be the first woman Libdem PM. She’s 17 and a half, and really quite bright, and could have s good and fairly glittering career ahead of her as a Doctor in, say, China or India or Brazil, or as a scientist anywhere. If I get her email (I have not got it on file) please will you try to talk her out of it? She also views your bolg.

What’s the point of any fringe meeting? It’s to make your argument, win support. In this case they were trying to help sign up members to the amend-the-ban.com campaign, specifically.

Ah, two top bloggers (according to totalpolitics, (sorry, who are you again Charlotte?) and who am I to doubt them) meet in a ~~smoke~~ ~~filled~~ smoke free room of illiberal liberal democrats. (All be it a fringe meeting.) One has to ask oneself what was the point of this fringe meeting? Attaining the top table you won’t get to or to stay on the fringes of the illiberal Liberal Democrats. Sorry Charlotte, my politics quotient is a bit jaded at the moment. PS: Did Dick Puddlecote show you his…err…rotten tomatoes? PPS: You have been blog rolled.
